AKO ATIKOSSIE

ABOUT

Ako Atikossie’s painting and installation techniques analyse the potential relationships between technology, matter and natural resources, expressed through an abstract language. In his artistic practice, Atikossie explores the transformations and the novel scenarios of contemporary science. His pictorial research uses the “minus“ sign both as a point of departure and arrival along a journey, incorporated in various directions, shapes, spaces and geometric dimensions. In physics, an electric minus, or electron, is a key element in understanding the basics and components of matter in constant motion. This sign is also an expression of something lacking, or the need to reveal a missing object. Prominent in West African cosmogony, the minus sign is used to interpret the past, present and future of universal matter. In Togo, it is visible in all traditional forms, from architecture to ritual representations. The geometric abstractions, undulations and kinetic games devised by Atikossie prompt us to consider the association between the constituent elements of space and earth and the repercussion of scientific research on social and political life. Above all, Atikossie investigates the involved complicity of the techniques and quantum science.
